Old Malaria Nutraceutical Hydroxychloroquine May Help Cure COVID-19
Hydroxychloroquine is a nutraceutical product that was developed nearly 50+ years ago to prevent and treat malaria. It was sold under the brand name Plaquenil and is now used by life sciences in the treatment of arthritis, other minor illnesses and is effective in killing the deadly laboratory bugs in experiments. This nutraceutical product is now showing the signs that it may also help cure COVID-19, especially when merged with an antibiotic.
The Chinese academy of sciences in Wuhan reported in a letter published in the cell discovery, the prediction that the nutraceutical has a good potential to fight this disease, they are also the authors of this study.
This nutraceutical has been clinically tested and trialed with a successful outcome by the French physician-researchers, which was approved for use in 1955 in the US. And following that, it is now used to treat confirmed COVID-19 patients.
The medical suppliers or medical supply manufacturers are having a hard time as the Supplies are running low after the tests.
Didier Raoult, an expert of infectious disease from l’Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire in Marseille led a study that involved a total of 36 patients, 20 infected people of coronavirus, and 16 infection controllers. The infected patients were given 600 ml of Plaquenil daily.
Six of the twenty patients were treated with the nutraceutical (Plaquenil) with the antibiotic azithromycin and the patients who were treated with a plain nutraceutical, according to the research, 50 percent of them were found to be turned from positive to negative on the third day and by the sixth day, that figure was turned into 70 percent. And six patients who were treated with the antibiotic showed impressive results, five tested negative on day three, while all six tested negative on day six.
Despite being tested in a very small amount, this survey shows that this nutraceutical Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is indeed very successful in lessening /vanishing the viral load in COVID-19 patients given with the dose of antibiotic.
Researchers have conducted many more tests on COVID-19, one of which is a pill containing two HIV drugs promoted as the potential treatment for coronavirus. This was developed during the HIV crisis. The Nutraceutical product helped in inhibiting the action of protease, it prevents the development of HIV infection. Coronavirus uses protease during replication but is different enough to be effective.
The mixture of Nutraceuticals lopinavir and ritonavir were tested in China. They did not have any effect and the patients did not do better than the 100 who received the treatment.
COVID-19 is becoming problematic for the medical supply stocks. In the first 17 days of March, the hospitals bought 16,000 bottles of hydroxychloroquine, which is twice the normal consumption of it. Whereas people are getting their own prescriptions, while doctors are doing the same for themselves and their families. This is leading to a problem for the life sciences, as the medical supply wholesalers and the medical supply manufacturers are having a difficult time.
